What began as a hobby for the founder of the company, Ishvar Umley has evolved into a highly advanced operation. His enterprising spirit is found upon the ground work of his father who established his cobbler business as far back as 1904. Ishva's hobby filled the gap during his apprenticeship in the family outfitting business in South End. He began printing on the Rex Rotary duplicator - clear proof of how humble beginnings can lead to greater things. At that stage he opened as 'Speedy Services'. The business had historic connection, as in 1960 it became printer to the first non-racial cricket organisation in South Africa. He printed itd minutes 8 -10 pages for distribution to over 60 parties.
From that point on growth has assumed dynamic proportions. He & his late wife Diwari took the plunge and turned his hobby into a fully fledged business enterprise. The business graduated from duplicating to printing via the purchase of his first Heidelburg printing machine. One machine then became two in a storeroom in the yard of the home they lived, in Walmer Road, South End. Umleys Printers now Ishvar's livelyhood in South End in 1968. A few years later Mr Umley's late brother, Javier(Joe) Umley, joined his older siblings as a partner in the business.

The success of this enterprise led to the provision of rubber stamps. Both departments blossomed. The business outstripped its original home and with the forced removal, Ishvar had to relocate the continually expanding business to the Korsten area, but this did not sit well with Ishvar. Both his enterpreneural spirit and sense of independence sparred him on to search for premises large and suitable enough for the growth demands of the company. After much effort and sacrifice he was able to acquire his own premises in Todd Street, North End.

Since moving to the current premises in 1986 still diversifying, felt that in 2004 the time was now ripe to move on and away from the printing and concerntrate on his rubber stamps and engraving arms of the business.
